The Mexican government and President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador are advancing plans to transform its agriculture system to achieve self-sufficiency in basic grains and strengthen rural livelihoods. The first phase of the program includes guaranteed prices for corn, wheat, rice, beans and milk produced by small-scale farmers.

IATP hosted a webinar discussing this ambitious program, potential roadblocks and the lessons it could hold for sustainable production in the United States and around the world.

The webinar was moderated by IATP's Director of Trade and Global Governance Karen Hansen-Kuhn. Panelists included María Leticia López Zepeda of ANEC, José Atahualpa Estrada Aguilar of ANEC, Enrique Pérez Suárez of ANEC and Tim Wise of the Small Planet Institute.
