Policy Research, Education and Advocacy
While
IATP is a 501(c)3 organization with strict limits on our ability to lobby, we
can use a portion of our funds for policy research, education and
advocacy. We are active on a range of
federal policy reform issues, including the reauthorization of the Magnuson Act
and work to defend the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
We
also advocate that the FDA reject the application for the pending release of
transgenic fish and a ban on all sub-therapeutic antibiotics in fish
farming. We are an active member in
national coalitions, including Keep Antibiotics Working ,
GE Food Alert, Genetic Engineering Action Network, The Campaign on Genetically Engineered Fish, Seafood Choices Alliance, and The Marine Fish Conservation Network.
In
addition to federal policy advocacy, IATP staff will conduct public and
opinion-leader education on these issues by way of media outreach, list serves
and other Internet tools, and the production of reports and newsletters.
