Make no mistake -- the environment is a hot topic in the media today.
EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson on Friday kicked off a three-day mission in China amid simmering tensions with the growing Asian economic giant. During the trip Mandelson, who has made relations with China a top priority in the EU's trade policy, is to meet for the first time with his new Chinese counterpart, Commerce Minister Chen Deming, his office said in a statement.

Senator Hillary Clinton has responded to the animal abuse at the Hallmark/Westland slaughter house and a subsequent recall of 143 million pounds of ground beef, much of it already consumed by school children. The response reflects just how difficult it is to propose policy while responding on the campaign trail to widely publicized events.
Perhaps it is not surprising that WTO Director General, Pascal Lamy, never misses an opportunity to promote the potential benefits of increased trade liberalization. According to Lamy (and other free trade advocates), trade expansion is the solution to every major problem the world faces.
