Antonio Tovar
Antonio Tovar-Aguilar is a seasoned advocate for social and environmental justice in agriculture, currently serving as Senior Policy Associate at the National Family Farm Coalition (NFFC) in Washington, DC since 2021. With a rich background spanning over two decades, Antonio's career is marked by his dedication to farmworker rights and sustainable agriculture.
Prior to joining NFFC, Antonio spent 17 years at the Farmworker Association of Florida, where he held various roles including Research Coordinator, Agroecology Coordinator, and ultimately Executive Director from 2017 to 2020. His academic pursuits led him to the University of Florida, where he studied Medical Anthropology and contributed to research across multiple disciplines.
Antonio's expertise extends to public health and policy, having worked with the Florida Department of Health's Epidemiology Department and the University of South Florida's Prevention Research Center. His teaching experience includes positions at Florida State University and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras.
Born in Mexico City, Antonio's connection to agriculture was nurtured on his grandmother's farm in Morelos. He holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Guanajuato and a PhD in anthropology from the University of Florida. As a fellow at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Antonio is committed to evidence-based policymaking in agriculture and public health.
