Boise Cascade is closing its paper converting plant in Salem. In nine months, the doors will close, leaving 101 people out of a job.

The plant sits on a 13-acre site on the Willamette River. The site has been an industrial zone dating back to the 1860s. Now it appears that a mixed-use development may be in store.

Boise Cascade spokesman Mike Moser says they hope they can find a suitable buyer for the property.

Mike Moser: "We will do everything that we can as we look for a new owner of that property to work with the city and that new owner to help fulfill those plans that the city has for their redevelopment downtown."

Boise Cascade officials say they looked into relocating in Salem. They plan on keeping their corrugated cardboard factory in Southeast Salem.Oregon Public Broadcasting
