The sell-off and lease of corporate-owned forest lands in northern Minnesota -- which has fragmented the forest -- continues to pose problems for the public.

The latest example: A five-mile portion of the Taconite State Trail near Britt will be rerouted onto U.S. Forest Service roads to avoid a small section of private land recently sold by Portlatch Corp. The DNR is negotiating with the new landowner in hopes of keeping the current trail alignment.Minneapolis Star Tribune
