The National Metrology Institute (Inmetro) wants to make its seal of Integrated Fruit Production (PIF) adequate to the demands of Europe Gap, a voluntary quality certification adopted by European supermarkets. The Brazilian proposal, which foresees the equalization of the analyses systems, should be sent to the evaluating committee by October. The project was presented yesterday, in Rio de Janeiro, during a workshop held by Unctad, the UN Conference for Trade and Development, in partnership with Inmetro. "This is one of the objectives of Europe Gap, to create mechanisms that permit the accommodation of local seals of quality to our certificate," commented Europe Gap technical director Hugo Hays. So far, the PIF already has certified seven types of fruit: apples, grapes, mangas, passion fruits, melons, peaches and cashews. Like the Europe Gap seal, that of PIF is also aimed at farm products.
