US trade representative Bob Zoellick says he is encouraged by the reaction of the US Congress to the trade deal.
Trade lobbyists in Washington believe the agreement's chances of passing through the Congress have been improved because sugar was left out.
The head of an influential Washington free trade lobby, Mr R D Folson, says the agreement benefits US and Australian manufacturers rather than primary producers.
"American Congressmen on both sides of the aisle will recognise that this is good for American workers," he said.
Mr Zoellick says he has already received a positive response from some members of Congress.
"We've been encouraged by many members of Congress, Republicans and Democrats," Mr Zoellick said.
Opposition to the trade deal in the US was centred around agriculture, and in particular the powerful US sugar lobby.:
