BRUSSELS - The top EU environment official said on Tuesday there was a lack of understanding in the United States about European attitudes to health protection, and that the issue must be paramount in forthcoming global trade talks. EU Environment Commissioner Margot Wallstrom told the European Parliament's environment committee the EU must be allowed to maintain its so-called "precautionary principle," under which trade restrictions on health grounds need not be based on absolute proof of risk.Reuters:
