The White House Bulletin / July 26, 2001
Sens. Ron Wyden and Sam Brownback today introduced the Carbon Sequestration and Reporting Act of 2001. Intended to significantly reduce atmospheric CO2, the act promotes carbon sequestration through forest- and agriculture-based efforts. As a combination of two bills introduced individually last year, the Wyden-Brownback bill would
provide assistance to owners of nonindustrial forestland to plant and manage underproducing or understocked forests and would allow farmers to voluntarily contract with the USDA to sequester carbon through soil conservation measures.
