DOHA - World Trade Organization chief Mike Moore said a gun attack on an air base in Qatar used by U.S. warplanes Wednesday was not related to a meeting of the WTO due to start in the Gulf Arab state Friday.
"This is a very, very sad incident, but it is unrelated to the conference," Moore told Reuters.
Asked if it would affect the November 9-13 WTO conference, he replied: "I don't believe it will affect the conference."
Qatari security forces shot dead a Qatari man who opened fire earlier in the day at the Udeid air base some 25 miles south of the capital Doha. The U.S. embassy said some Americans were wounded in the attack on the base.
Ministers from the WTO's 142 member states will try in Doha to agree on an agenda for a new round of global trade liberalization talks.Reuters:
