GENEVA, Sept 20 (AFP) - The World Trade Organisation (WTO) welcomed Wednesday the US Senate's approval of a bill normalising trade ties with China.
"I welcome the Senate approval of prominent normal trade relations for China as I welcome all action taken by the World Trade Organisation member governments which facilitate the rapid accession of China into the WTO," said Mike Moore, the WTO director-general.
US senators voted Tuesday in favour of the controversial bill, which cuts US tariffs on Chinese exports in return for a promise by Beijing's leaders to throw open their market to US firms as part of China's entry into the WTO.:
