The US Forest Service wants to add 10-thosuand acres of wilderness to the Green Mountain National Forest in the Glastenbury Mountain area of southern Vermont.

The additional wilderness is part of a plan, released by the Forest Service today, to increase wilderness and logging in the 400,000-acre national forest, which runs from the Massachusetts border to Addison County.

The plan would also allow all-terrain vehicles in parts of the forest, but under strict conditions.

Forest Supervisor Paul Brewster says officials balanced proposals for existing wilderness with calls for increased logging and recreational opportunities.

Groups have 90 days to appeal the plan.Associated Press via CBS Albany
