India on Tuesday said it would press for greater market access and forge its alliance with G-20 developing countries to protect the interest of agriculture and livelihood concerns of farmers.
Coming out of the first meeting of the newly constituted Cabinet Committee on WTO, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath said "our approach would be that all employment generating industries in the manufacturing are fully protected so that India became a manufacturing hub."
On Agriculture, he said India in coordination with G-20 developing countries including Brazil, China and South Africa, will push for greater market access, elimination of export subsidies and domestic support in the developed countries.
"We want to ensure that all these three pillars are dealt with," Kamal Nath said.
The Cabinet Committee on WTO will meet again on Wednesday to finalise India's strategy on WTO issues during the UNCTAD meeting to be held in Sao Palo from June 13-18.
Kamal Nath, who will head the Indian delegation to UNCTAD, will seek the mandate from the Committee for India's startegy at the international gathering.Asia Pulse:
