Moving Forward on Food Justice: Chicago Regional Gathering on Draft Food Justice Principles
Hundreds of food justice advocates from around the nation gathered in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the Food + Justice = Democracy conference in September. One of the primary features of the conference was the use of a People’s Movement Assembly (PMA) process to craft principles around food justice, inspired by the 1991 principles of Environmental Justice. In 2013, IATP, the conference steering committee, and members of the PMA facilitation team will bring the draft food justice principles around the nation for collective review and refinement.
To support the engagement of local groups and advance the co-creation of the Food Justice principles, meetings are also being organized in Atlanta, Washington D.C and New York City.
Please join us Friday, January 18 in Chicago at one of the regional gatherings to move forward the discussion on the draft principles of food justice.
LaDonna Redmond, senior program associate at IATP and Sam Simmons of Simmons Consulting will facilitate a day-long agenda to dig deep into the draft principles, generate strategy for how to bring these principles to kitchen tables across the nation, and co-organize work to be done in concert with the 2013 review and refinement process. Light morning refreshment and lunch from our host Erika Allen of Growing Power Chicago will be included.
