The Midwest’s leading organizations working for rural prosperity from Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas, along with state and federal officials, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, met in South Sioux City, Nebraska at the Midwest Rural Assembly.

 

Topics covered included how to retain young people in rural communities, cooperative business models, sustainable energy, local food systems, green job creation, rural teacher training, micro-enterprise programs, integration of immigrants, rural infrastructure projects and more. Policy discussions covered federal health care reform, farm policy and broadband policy.
