The 1992 United Nations Conference for Environment and Development (UNCED), also known as the Earth Summit, in Rio de Janeiro, was the first of the large international conferences focused on the global environment.
“Rendering Rio Moot: Trade Policy at the Earth Summit”, is a collection of writings by Kristin Dawkins that contains an in depth look at maneuvering by the U.S. government and the NGO and civil society responses.
In the Appendix is the “Alternative Treaty on Trade and Sustainable Development”. This treaty was approved at the NGOs International Forum which was parallel to the official Earth Summit in Rio.
