Enbridge Oil has petitioned the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for permission to expand the quantity of tar sand oil pumped through the "Alberta Clipper" pipeline which runs across all of northern Minnesota to Superior, Wisconsin and on to Illinois. The first phase of the expanded pumping has been approved by the PUC, and if Enbridge receives final approval, it would double the current capacity of highly toxic tar sand oil passing through Minnesota to 880,000 barrels a day.
