History: The Patent and Industrial Design Law No. 659 came into effect in 1970 as well as its implementing regulation. Iraq is not party to the WTO. Membership: WIPO, Paris

Provisions until now: No patents are allowed on inventions whose exploitation will damage public morals or order or are against public interest. Pharmaceutical and medical preparations are also excluded.
