History: The Patent and Trademark Regulations of 1958 are in effect. Iran has not joined the WTO. Membership: None

Provisions until now: Iranian law prohibits patenting of inventions or improvements which are contrary to public order, morals or public health and pharmaceutical formulae or arrangements (although special processes may be patented). Agricultural results of a product are specifically patentable.
